The mentoring luncheon will feature brief talks by Elliott Laws and Peter Robertson focusing on their careers in environmental law and policy as well as their insights on current and future trends in the field, followed by questions and discussion.

Refreshments will be provided; please bring your lunch.

Elliott Laws is a partner at Crowell & Moring LLP, where he provides strategic counseling and legal, policy and crisis management advice on environmental and energy policy issues, regulation and litigation, addressing Superfund and hazardous wastes, brownfields redevelopment, environmental remediation, chemical regulation, clean air and clean water.  Elliott is a former official of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he served as assistant administrator for Solid Waste and Emergency Response.  In that role, he was responsible for regulatory and policy development and implementation for solid and hazardous waste management.  This included the Superfund, RCRA, brownfields and underground storage tanks programs.  Prior to his role at EPA, Elliott was an attorney at the U.S. Justice Department, president of safety, health and environment for Texaco Inc., and a former Manhattan assistant district attorney.

Peter Robertson serves as Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs at the Pebble Partnership at Northern Dynasty Minerals, Ltd.  He was previously Senior Vice President of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs at America’s Natural Gas Alliance, and prior to that, Mr. Robertson served as Partner and Co-Chair of the Public Policy Group at Crowell & Moring LLP.  Mr. Robertson’s extensive experience in the public and private environmental and public policy sectors includes having served as acting Deputy Administrator and Chief of Staff of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency during the Clinton Administration.  Prior to his tenure as chief of staff, Mr. Robertson was EPA’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for Solid Waste and Emergency Response. Before joining the EPA, Mr. Robertson was in private law practice as a public policy and environmental attorney and prior to that served for more than six years on Capitol Hill in various roles.
