The Horinko Group”s latest headline comes from the December 2010 issue of the Clean Water America Alliance”s monthly newsletter, Newswaves. The article is entitled “Water Sector Coming Together to Discuss National Water Policy Framework” and details how the Clean Water America Alliance is hosting a dialogue on January 13, 2010 to seek the valuable input from the water sector on a draft framework for a national water policy.

As was the case with the Alliance’s national dialogue series, this discussion will be chaired by Ben Grumbles and facilitated by LaJuana Wilcher. The dialogue will feature a keynote address by Peter Silva, Assistant Administrator of Water at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and presentations by the Johnson Foundation and The Horinko Group.

The Horinko Group has posted a new headline from the office of Senator Carl Levin (D-Mich) entitled “Senate Passes Levin’s Asian Carp Prevention and Control Act.”

The press release details how the Senate passed S. 1421, the and Control Act which would list the bighead carp as injurious under the Lacey Act. Species listed as injurious may not be imported or sold in interstate commerce if the species is alive. The Fish and Wildlife Service has already listed other varieties of Asian carp as injurious in an effort to minimize the risk of an intentional introduction of Asian carp. The House of Representatives must still pass this bill.

The Horinko Group’s latest headline comes from The National Academies Press. The Committee on Clean Water Act Implementation Across the Mississippi River Basin of the National Research Council has made available its report entitled “Improving Water Quality in the Mississippi River Basin and Northern Gulf of Mexico.”

The report offers strategic advice and priorities for addressing Mississippi River Basin and Northern Gulf of Mexico water quality management and improvements. Links to the full report, its abstract and a summary can be found on the National Academies Press' website.

The Horinko Group has posted a new headline about the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center entitled “Research center to be named for Costello.”

Here’s an excerpt from the article: “Dale Chapman, president of Lewis and Clark Community College, said that the college’s new river field station will be named The Jerry F. Costello National Great Rivers Research and Education Center Confluence Field Station. The board formally approved the decision several weeks ago.”

The Horinko Group has posted a new headline entitled “Promoting Transparency in Climate Change Through Knowledge Management Forum Proceedings.” The proceedings detail the outcomes of a May 10, 2010 Policy Forum in Philadelphia, PA co-hosted by The Horinko Group, AEA, and PPC.

This Policy Forum brought together executive-level leadership from several key policy-making and policy-implementing organizations to discuss ongoing initiatives related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the increased use of non-renewable energy sources, and wisely allocating Recovery Act Funds to achieve both environmental and economic recovery missions. The panelists discussed their primary challenges and identified where more effective inter-agency actions would be useful in accomplishing their missions.
